The U.S. multinational travel BCD Travel in Costa Rica set up its first call center in Latin America.

The multinational operation called Service Center is scheduled to begin the second week of January in Ultrapark 2, in Heredia.

The information was confirmed to The Nation from Atlanta by Barbara Blue, president of the Latin American division, and Mark Majewski, Vice President senior Strategic Operations.

BCD Travel is a company that operates in 90 countries and has a payroll of 13,000 employees. It has call centers in different regions of the world: six in the United States, six in Europe, one in Asia-Pacific and, most recently, of our country.

Choice. BCD Travel two months ago took the decision to open its regional center in Costa Rica.

According to Blue and Majewski, the choice was based on traditional aspects as the country’s economic and political stability and its proximity to the U.S.

Additionally, both executives hailed the dynamism of Costa Rica in attracting investment and the availability of finding qualified personnel.
“Some time ago we are discussing with calm to the region and, of course, Costa Rica. We spoke with representatives of other multinational companies to share their experiences and that helped us decide to establish a service center in the country, “said Blue.

The executives did not disclose the amount allocated to the center here, but Karen Nanne-director of operations for BCD Travel Costa Rica, said that investment is a “very strong and long term.”
Nanne added that another reason that weighed in the choice of country was the “success” of the local office, with 42 people and caters to corporate clients.

Staff. For this call center BCD Travel has already hired 30 people, which is training for the start of operations scheduled for January 11, 2010.

This call center will be located on the fourth floor of Ultrapark 2, in an area of 600 m².

From this site, bilingual (Spanish-English) cater to customer inquiries in the Americas from Canada to Argentina. However, the goal of Blue and Majewski is here to serve customers around the world. To do this, BCD Travel plans, within 12 to 15 months, increasing its payroll by 500%, reaching 150 employees.

In our country there are 81 service firms, of which 24 are call centers.
